Expand your Tar Wars presenter base to include high school students. Utilize high school students to reach and connect with children using the effective peer-to-peer learning approach.
Tar Wars coordinators can contact school nurses or counselors at high schools to recruit teenage presenters. High school students can fulfill community service requirements by becoming a Tar Wars presenter in local elementary schools.
History
The “Tar Wars with a Twist” model utilizes peer-to-peer learning or teenage mentors to present the program to elementary school students. Several Tar Wars coordinators have developed variations of this model. A Tar Wars with a Twist project was initiated by Shruti Nadkarni from New Jersey. Nadkarni, a Tar Wars Star Award recipient in 2011, worked on a project to present the tobacco-free message in New Jersey for her Girl Scout Gold Award.
